NU defeats Enderun in Shakey’s Super League opener
National University kicked off its campaign in the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) National Invitational with a victory over Enderun Colleges at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Wednesday, July 10.
Thirteen players scored in the barrage led by veteran wing speaker Vange Alinsug with 14 points. Meanwhile, opposite hitter Nataszha Bombita threw in 12 markers with rookie Celine Marsh also scoring 8 as the Lady Bulldogs claimed triumph with 25-19, 25-15, 25-16 after two hours in Pool A.
The Lady Bulldogs were so dominant that UAAP Most Valuable Player Bella Belen along with other aces Sheena Toring and Arah Panique saw limited action in the runway win.
“We are happy with our first win, especially that our goal in this tournament is to gain experience and exposure for other players, particularly our rookies,” head coach Norman Miguel said.
Miguel added that he wanted his bench players to step up to prepare them for the coming games as Belen and Panique are set to join Alas Pilipinas in its training camp.
On the other hand, Shane Carmona, the lone Enderun player in double figures, pacing her team with 10 points. They will seek a rebound Thursday against the debuting Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan.
