Vanie Gandler steps up for shorthanded Cignal vs Galeries Tower

Vanie Gandler led the way for Cignal as they trampled Galeries Tower with a resounding 25-17, 25-20, 25-19 victory in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday, January 21, at the Philsports Arena.

Gandler now has a bigger role following the departure of former team captain Ces Molina.

Carrying a bigger responsibility, Gandler unleashed a match-high 17 points anchored on 13 attacks, three aces, and a block that helped steer the HD Spikers to their fifth win in six games.

Libero Dawn Macandili-Catindig, who took on the reins of captainship, delivered 19 excellent digs to defend the floor, expressing she was also impressed by the collective effort of her teammates despite only having a shorthanded roster.

“Super proud because everyone stepped up, and we just really enjoyed ourselves. It’s great to see the whole team connecting so well,” the defense ace remarked.

Stepping up for the team as well was Jacqueline Acuña and rookie Ishie Lalongisip, who both contributed nine markers, while Judith Abil, who returned to court as a spiker after playing as a libero in the previous season, posted seven points.

Cignal will return next Tuesday, January 28, to battle the PLDT High Speed Hitters at the same venue.
