Veteran setter Chie Saet pushes for All-Filipino Conference title

Petro Gazz veteran setter Chie Saet continues to prove her worth, playing a key role in the team’s journey toward the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference title.

The 40-year-old was instrumental in guiding the Angels to a semifinal-clinching victory over ZUS Coffee, orchestrating their offense in a dominant 25-21, 25-19, 25-23 win on Tuesday, March 25, at the Philsports Arena.

Saet masterfully orchestrated Petro Gazz’s offense, registering 20 excellent sets while also contributing five points. Her steady hands set the stage for key scorers Brooke Van Sickle, Myla Pablo, and Jonah Sabete.

Having been trusted once again by head coach Koji Tsuzurabara, Saet expressed her gratitude for the chance to lead the team in crucial moments.

"Of course, I’m happy to be back on the court and to have this opportunity again. I take this responsibility seriously—to execute, to lead, and to guide my teammates," she said.

Even in losses, Saet has been a rock for the team, ensuring they learn from their mistakes.

"After that defeat, we had to reflect. We talked immediately after the match and again the next day. We realized that we had lost sight of ourselves and what we were capable of," she shared.

Their sluggish start in Game 1 of the quarterfinals served as a wake-up call, as they initially hesitated to fight back, only to be caught off guard by their opponents’ aggressive play. Learning from that loss, Saet and her teammates resolved not to let it happen again, determined to avoid another heartbreak.

Having won multiple championships, including UAAP titles with La Salle and two PVL Reinforced Conference crowns in 2019 and 2022, Saet has achieved almost everything in her career—except for an All-Filipino Conference championship.

"As one of the veterans, this is the only championship we haven't won yet. I really want to win this, not just for myself but for the team. And honestly, I want to be remembered when I retire soon, so I’m giving everything I have in every game," she said.

Saet remains the voice of experience and motivation in the Petro Gazz camp.

"I always remind the team: we’ve come this far, so why stop now?"

With the semifinals approaching, Saet and the Angels are more determined than ever to complete their championship quest.
