Erica Staunton dominates as Creamline cruises to AVC opening win

Erica Staunton made an unforgettable return to the international stage, powering the Creamline Cool Smashers to a commanding 29-27, 25-20, 25-19 sweep over Al Naser Club to open their 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League campaign on Sunday at the PhilSports Arena.

Staunton, who was a force in the 2024 PVL Reinforced and Invitational Conferences, picked up right where she left off—delivering a game-high 17 points built on 13 attacks, three service aces, and a block.

The 24-year-old American capped her stellar outing by scoring four of Creamline’s last five points, including the match-winning crosscourt kill in the third set.

“I'm just really excited to be able to play with them again,” said Staunton, who expressed joy at rejoining the Cool Smashers. “I think that representing the Philippines is really special. Overall, it's very surreal and I'm really happy to be back.”

Supporting Staunton’s standout night were team captain Alyssa Valdez, who chipped in 10 markers, and libero Aleiah Torres, who impressed with 10 excellent digs and solid floor coverage. Anastassiya Kolomoyets and Anastasiya Kudryashova also combined for 17 points.

With Staunton in peak form and Creamline firing on all cylinders, the Cool Smashers sent a strong message to their Asian rivals—they’re here not just to compete, but to contend.
