Alas Pilipinas receives P200,000 cash bonus for historic podium finish

Sen. Bong Go hands cash incentives to Alas Pilipinas women volleyball team

Members of Alas Pilipinas women's national volleyball team were awarded cash incentives for their breakthrough performance which gave the country its first-ever podium finish at the AVC Challenge Cup last month.

Senator Bong Go, chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, personally handed the checks worth P200,000 to each player and coaching staff of the team during a brief ceremony on Wednesday, June 26, inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Except for Sisi Rondina, all members of the team as well as the coaching staff headed by Brazilian head coach Jorge Edson Souza de Brito were present.

Go lauded the efforts of the Filipina spikers, who fought in the 10-nation field even without the benefit of an intensive training together.

"The important thing is to win. What at stake here is our flag and our country. I always tell them to do their best." Go said in Filipino.

Alas Pilipinas is now gearing up for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Challenger Cup, which the country will host from July 4 to 7 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. They will go up against tougher opponents composed of Kenya, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Vietnam, Sweden, Czech Republic and Belgium.

The event serves as a qualifying tournament to the Women’s Volleyball Nations League.
