Brooke Van Sickle unleashes 27 to power Petro Gazz’s 6th win
Brooke Van Sickle fuelled the Petro Gazz Angels to a 25-20, 24-26, 28-26, 25-22 victory past the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday, February 4, at the Philsports Arena.
Van Sickle dominated the Angels’ offensive and defensive plays, putting up 27 points built on 25 attacks and two aces while also posting 15 excellent digs and five excellent receptions, garnering Player of the Game merit.
Together with Myla Pablo, who scored 22 points on 19 attacks, and three blocks, she seized the lead late in the fourth set and won the match.
“I thought ZUS did an amazing job. They definitely pushed us physically and mentally. Teams like that, it can be hard effort throughout the entire game especially as a hitter. I thought we stayed pretty composed even though how tired we are,” the Filipino-American spiker said.
“We didn’t wanna show it. I thought Myla did a fantastic job, we had a lot of swings and long rallies just to be able to stay focused, stay together as a team. It was a good win, they pushed us very, very hard,” she added.
Keeping the Thunderbelles within striking distance, Kate Santiago led ZUS Coffee with 21 points, followed closely by Chai Troncoso with 19.
In the fourth set, Petro Gazz took advantage of costly mistakes and drew away late despite the pair's best efforts to rally their side.
Petro Gazz aims to defeat Capital1 for a seventh consecutive win next Tuesday, February 11, at the Philsports Arena, while ZUS Coffee aims to bounce back against Cignal on February 13 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
