Cess Robles powers Chery Tiggo’s victory over Galeries Tower
Princess Robles showcased an all-around performance to tow Chery Tiggo to a 30-28, 20-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-8 victory over Galeries Tower in their Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference game at the Philsports Arena over the weekend.
Robles headlined the team’s victory, recording a game-high 21 points built on 20 kills including the last two points of the match which steered the Crossover back to the winning column for a 4-2 win-loss record. She also finished with nine digs and 11 excellent receptions.
“This win is the fruit of our collective effort as a team. In the first three sets, we really struggled and were sluggish. But we’re able to unleash our real game in the fourth set,” Robles said.
“Again, it’s a complete team effort from us and everybody really wanted to get this win,” the 27-year-old wing spiker added.
Aby Maraño added 15 markers, Pauline Gaston hammered 13 of her 14 points from attacks, while Shaya Adorador and Ara Galang contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the Crossovers.
Chery Tiggo recovered from a third frame setback, unleashing a five-point lead as the Highrisers erupted a 9-0 run to get in the front before eventually committing mistakes that propelled Robles to deliver back-to-back kills in the decider to clinch the five-set win.
The win denied the Galeries Tower a second straight victory, sliding to a 1-4 mark tied with the Capital1 Solar Spikers.
France Ronquillo paced the Highrisers, collecting a total of 18 markers, while Jewel Encarnacion supplemented 16 in the losing effort.
Both teams will return on January 21 in the same Pasig venue as Chery Tiggo aims to continue its winning ways when they face Petro Gazz, while Galeries will try to record another win against Cignal in the first match.
