Chery Tiggo overcame a second set stumble and took down Galeries Tower in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Thursday night, August 8.

The Chery Tiggo Crossovers capped the first round on a high note with a commanding four-set win over the Galeries Towers Highrisers, 25-17, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16.

Spiker Ara Galang led the team’s local offense with 16 points built on 11 attacks and five blocks, while import Khat Bell, despite nursing a minor back injury, still tallied a game-high 25 markers on 21 attacks, three blocks, and one ace to go along with 12 excellent receptions and eight excellent digs.

“Our teamwork is important. Although we have an import, we have to help her and can’t rely on her alone. Us, locals, have to work harder so it will be easier for Khat and the whole team,” Galang told the reporters after the game.

“Actually, before the game, Khat Bell was already feeling something due to her back pain. Hopefully, it is nothing serious because we don’t want anything to happen to her,” added coach Kungfu Reyes.

Pauline Gaston also contributed nine points, while Mary Rhose Dapol and Shaya Adorador supplied six apiece.

The Highrisers, on the other hand, relied on France Ronquillo’s 13-point outing, while Grace Bombita and Andrea Marzan scored 12 points each.

Thai reinforcement Sutadta Chuewulim did not produce double digit scoring with only nine, but had 18 excellent receptions and 16 excellent digs.

Crossovers’ victory allowed them to seal the third-seed, entering Pool C at 4-1, while leaving the Pool D-bound Highrisers winless in five first-round matches.
