Choco Mucho notches first win in All-Filipino vs Galeries Tower

Choco Mucho snatched its first win after pocketing a five-set, 27-29, 25-20, 25-19, 17-25, 15-12, victory against Galeries Tower in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan on Thursday, November 14.

The Flying Titans bounced back from a loss against Petro Gazz in the tournament opener last Saturday, November 9, banking on the efforts of Kat Tolentino’s 27 points anchored on 20 attacks, seven blocks, and 10 excellent digs.

With the match knotted at two sets apiece, Galeries kept up with Choco Mucho’s tempo as Royse Tubino and Grazielle Bombita traded blows early in the final set at 4-4.

However, the Flying Titans took a narrow two-point lead, 7-5, after Sisi Rondina slammed a crosscourt hit and Cherry Nunag’s timely recovery from her attack error.

Rookie Lorraine Pecaña played excellent net defense to help the Flying Titans hold their opponents at bay and lead by four points in the closing minutes for an 11-7 count.

Ysa Jimenez's kills gave Galeries Tower a 3-0 run, but Pecaña read Jimenez's attack and blocked her shot to stop the Galeries' momentum to give Choco Mucho a 12–10 cushion.

Des Cheng gave Choco Mucho a service ace to earn her only point of the match, but Jimenez responded with a through-the-block hit. Rondina then scored a crosscourt hit on which Julia Coronel countered with a crosscourt of her own to keep the Galeries alive, 12-14.

Rondina sealed the game, 15-12, after hitting a loaded shot to ultimately conclude the match.

"This can give more confidence to us since we haven't won in a game in a while [since the Reinforced Conference]. We are grateful that we took the win today," Choco Mucho coach Dante Alinsunurin said.

Rondina added 19 points for the Flying Titans, while Nunag and Pecaña added 14 and 10 markers, respectively.

Meanwhile, Jewel Encarnacion paced the Galeries with 18 in the losing cause, while Jimenez and France Ronquillo supplemented 13 and 11 points, while Julia Coronel contributed 10.

Choco Mucho aims to build on this win against Capital1 next Thursday, November 21, in the same venue.
