Cignal executed a near perfect game to continue its dominance of Pool B in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Thursday, August 1, at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The HD Spikers dismantled the struggling Petro Gazz Angels in straight sets, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22, bringing them close to sweeping Pool B with a perfect 4-0 record.

This is also the HD Spikers’ best start in two years since the Invitational Conference in 2022 to secure their places among the top three teams.

“I am very happy because they gave all their effort in our three-day preparation. Good thing our game plan showed,” Cignal head coach Shaq delos Santos said. “Hopefully, this continues for us.”

Maria Jose Perez, Cignal’s Venezuelan import, carried the offensive load with 20 points on 16 attacks, three blocks and an ace, while Jacqueline Acuña contributed eight markers, three blocks, and an ace, followed by Frances Xinia Molina scoring seven for the HD Spikers.

On the other hand, Brooke van Sickle’s 28-point performance went down the drain as the defending champion slid down to a 1-3 card following its third consecutive loss.

Van Sickle’s performance featured 25 kills, three blocks and an ace along with 10 excellent receptions while the Angel’s Cuban reinforcement Wilma Salas only had 14 points from 12 attacks, three blocks and an ace.

Cignal will look to complete the sweep against Akari on Tuesday, August 6, while Petro Gazz will seek to end its slump when they face Choco Mucho on Saturday, August 3, at the same venue.
