Cignal repels Nxled, eases into PVL quarterfinals
Cignal will head into the Premier League Volleyball (PVL) Reinforced Conference quarterfinals after outplaying Nxled on Tuesday, August 20, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
The HD Spikers ended its preliminary campaign after sweeping the Chameleons with a 27-25, 25-20, 25-20 victory.
The HD Spikers continued to bank on the Venezuelan wing spiker MJ Perez who dispatched 17 attack points apart from 10 excellent digs to move on to the quarterfinals.
“Of course, I am very happy and proud of the team because we won this last game going to the quarterfinals,” said Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos after the match.
“The team is ready. We just need to be careful, be in the best condition, and to focus more,” he added.
Ces Molina added 11 attack points in the sweep of the eliminated Chameleons, while playmaker Gel Cayuna displayed an all-around effort, contributing nine marks other than her 16 excellent sets and four aces.
Meanwhile, the Chameleons ended their campaign with a seven-game losing streak. They won their opener against Galeries Tower, but their season took a downturn afterwards.
American middle blocker Meegan Hart paced the defeated Nxled with 16 points, while Jho Maraguinot backstopped her with 15 markers and 10 excellent receptions.
With a 7-1 record, the HD Spikers remain in second place, just behind the still-undefeated Akari Chargers. Depending on the Akari versus Farm Fresh match, Cignal can still end up as the top team.
