Creamline's Bernadeth Pons earns PVL Player of the Week nod

Creamline sustained its pristine record in the ongoing 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference courtesy of the stellar performance of veteran open spiker Bernadeth Pons.

The former Far Eastern University stalwart continues to be a standout player for the defending champion Cool Smashers in a talent-rich wing rotation, thanks to her effective offensive play and strong floor defense.

When Creamline squandered a two-set lead against a tenacious Cignal team, Pons stepped in and restored order, resulting in an exciting 25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 23-25, 15-9 victory on Saturday night, February 1, at the Philsports Arena.

The 2024 Reinforced Conference Most Valuable Player unleashed the biggest blows in the fifth set, finishing with 27 points built on 24 kills, two aces, a block, and 14 excellent digs.

Pons was unanimously chosen as the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week, given by Pilipinas Live, for the January 28–February 1 period for her reliable performances that kept the 10-time PVL champions unscathed.

She outscored teammates Kyle Negrito, PLDT’s Savi Davison, ZUS Coffee’s Jovelyn Gonzaga, and Akari’s Ivy Lacsina and even eclipsed Trisha Tubu's 33-point career high during Farm Fresh's victory over Galeries Tower.

Pons credited her success to Creamline’s packed roster, which motivates her to perform at her peak throughout every practice.

"Actually, I really just want to be consistent, that's my goal every day in training, [to improve] at least one percent every day," Pons said.

"During training, I was really challenged, because everyone was very competitive. It is difficult to score, no one drops the ball. As a player, I'm also challenged by my teammates, so it's like, it's a very big thing for me that when it comes to the game, I really won't accept it lightly."

Pons, along with the Cool Smashers, aim to capture their eighth consecutive win in the tournament when they face Chery Tiggo on Thursday, February 6, at the same venue in Pasig City.
