EJ Laure exhibits best play in Nxled’s first-ever triumph
EJ Laure played her best game to steer Nxled in its first-ever victory in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), defeating the Galeries Tower, 25-20, 19-25, 25-14, 25-23, after a 0-8 start in the All-Filipino Conference.
Laure had her finest game as a Chameleon to date, unleashing 19 points built on 14 attacks and five blocks, while also supplementing nine excellent digs and eight excellent receptions to earn Player of the Game honors.
“It feels great. After all the hard work in our past games, we finally got our first win,” said Laure in Filipino.
“It wasn’t just me, everyone wanted to win, and we all worked together to make it happen,” she added.
The former University of Santo Tomas standout was relieved to assist her teammates in ending a 15-game losing skid that began in July of last year in the Reinforced Conference opener against Galeries Tower.
Italian coach Ettore Guidetti praised Laure's addition in his youthful team, saying the seasoned wing spiker has more to offer.
“The very good thing is not only about the game itself, she’s raising her level and obviously the level of the team every day. Basically, I think that's around 60 percent of her potential, so I am expecting to continue like this,” Guidetti said.
“I am seeing every single day the team and EJ working hard. I cannot forecast when the development will come. But she’s been working hard.”
Team captain Chiara Permentilla posted 14 markers, including 13 from attacks, while also putting up six excellent receptions. May Luna-Lumahan tallied a double-digit output with 12 points.
The Chameleons aim to maintain their momentum after their much anticipated victory when they play against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans on Thursday, February 13, at the same venue.
