Farm Fresh snaps Capital1’s win streak
Farm Fresh snapped Capital1’s three-game winning streak to keep its quarterfinals hopes alive in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Thursday, August 15, at PhilSports Arena.
The Foxies bowed to Cignal and PLDT in their last two games but bounced back with a straight set, 25-17, 25-23, 25-20, victory against the Solar Spikers.
“We had two straight losses but our level of play is good and is there. I just trust our players and we will make the necessary adjustments when we train for our next game,” said Japanese coach Shota Sato through an interpreter.
Colombian import Yeny Murillo posted a team-high 15 points on 13 attacks and two aces to go along with six excellent receptions, while local Trisha Tubu added 12 markers , all on attacks.
Team captain and setter Louie Romero delivered 16 excellent sets, while libero Janel Delerio had an impressive defensive outing with 22 excellent digs and nine excellent receptions for the Foxies.
On the other hand, the loss humbled Capital1, which was on a three-game win streak fuelled by powerful Marina Tushova. The Solar Spikers dropped to a 4-3 card.
Tushova, who was coming off a historic 49-point explosion last Saturday, finished with 18 points, 17 excellent receptions, and seven excellent digs in the loss.
Rookie opposite spike Leila Cruz had her best outing yet with 10 markers, while seasoned playmaker Iris Tolenada had 17 excellent sets to go along with seven points.
Farm Fresh have a daunting task of facing top team Akari on Tuesday, August 20, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre, while Capital1 could still clinch an assured quarterfinal spot against Galeries Towers at the same game date.
