Foreign players impressed by Manila Hustle 3x3 tournament
The Manila Hustle 3x3 tournament left a lasting impression on the foreign players who attended the event at the Mall of Asia Music Hall last week, thanks to the heightened competition and vibrant atmosphere.
Zoos Tokyo claimed their second consecutive championship, edging out Panthers 3x3 from Spain in the final.
Along the way, they experienced an unexpected loss to the Gilas Pilipinas Women, highlighting the progress of Filipino players in the halfcourt game.
"This competition is really great and it was a lot of fun. The level was very high, and we really had to compete to win the championship," said world no. 55 Ama Degbeon, reflecting on the tournament.
In addition to the tough competition from local teams, foreign players also appreciated the enthusiastic support from the home crown during the two-day event.
"The Philippines is a great place because the crowd was amazing, especially for the national team. We really loved playing in front of these fans," said Degbeon after Zoos Tokyo defeated Panthers 3x3 in the final.
"I feel like I'm at home when I return to the Philippines, and it motivates me to bring the best team here to Manila Hustle 3x3," added Ari Geli.
With the successful third season now behind them, Geli, a German forward, is eager to return next year and compete again.
"Teams are definitely leveling up, and many players from different countries are showcasing their skills," said Degbeon.
Geli shares the same goal, but with the promise of different results next year.
"Next year, we will win," she vowed about the tournament.
