NU women dominate UE with 55-point blowout
National University sustained its unblemished record in the UAAP Season 87 Collegiate Women’s Basketball Tournament eking a 103-48 victory against University of the East on Saturday, October 26, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs extended their winning streak as they easily bagged their ninth straight win and secured a spot in the Final Four while remaining at the top of the eight-team league.
“We never look at any teams in the UAAP to see what their standing is, we always respect who our opponent is and we always put a premium to our preparation,” said NU head coach Aris Dimaunahan. “Part of the challenge in our team is how we start the game, and today I thought that our starters responded very well to the challenge.”
NU showed no mercy to its opponent as they immediately exhibited their dominance, capturing a 29-2 lead and limiting the Lady Warriors to single digits in the first frame of the game. The Lady Bulldogs’ mastery ignited the first quarter surge as they delivered a splendid 12-of-16 from the field.
A 27-7 scoring run that ballooned their lead to a cushion 51 points, 83-32, entering the fourth quarter sealed their ninth straight win.
“Every piece and every player is important. They value the minutes given to them regardless of how many and that's a statement of how committed we are as a team and our players as well, how willingly they absorb and embrace the roles given to them,” added Dimaunahan.
Camille Clarin paced the Lady Bulldogs in double figures, delivering 16 points built on 5-of-7 shooting, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal, while Ann Pingol finished with 12 markers, four boards, two dimes, and a deflection.
Jainaba Konateh supplemented 12 points along with four rebounds, and a steal, while Tin Cayabyab tallied 11 markers, four boards, and four dimes.
The Lady Bulldogs will attempt to extend their winning run and record their tenth consecutive win when they play against the UP Fighting Maroons on Sunday, November 03, at the University of Santo Tomas Quadricentennial Pavilion.
