Tina Salak returns as FEU head coach
Far Eastern University has announced the return of Tina Salak as the head coach of the Lady Tamaraws for the upcoming UAAP Season 87.
The development, made on Wednesday, August 14, marks Salak’s reassumption of the role after she stepped down as FEU’s main tactician in June last year due to her plans of migrating to the US.
“FEU Athletics welcomes Coach Tina Salak back to her role as Head Coach of our women’s volleyball team. From the outset, it has been our intention for Coach Tina to provide long-term mentorship in FEU. However, personal administrative matters made her miss most of the buildup for #UAAPSeason85 when she remained involved as a consultant. With Coach Tina now back full time with the team, she will reassume the Head Coach position,” the school’s statement read.
Salak previously led the Lady Tamaraws in UAAP Season 85, where she guided the team to a 6-8 finish, a significant improvement from their one-win record in Season 84.
Her return to the FEU coaching staff began in Season 86, where she joined the staff of interim head coach Manolo Refugia.
With Salak’s full-time return, Refugia will now serve as her assistant coach for their forthcoming UAAP campaign.
The Lady Tamaraws finished the elimination round in fourth place in the previous season with a 9-5 record and dealt eventual champion National University a proper scare in the semifinals by forcing a do-or-die match for a spot in the title series.
