WMPBL: Pilipinas Aguilas snatches victory against Valkyries
The Pilipinas Aguilas defeated the New Zealand Bluefire Valkyries, 66-55, on Wednesday, January 30, at the ew Era Central Recreation and Fitness Center, to have a successful debut game in the Women’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
Nathalie Prado led the Aguilas to the 11-point victory with her double-double performance of 18 points and 13 rebounds.
It was a close game until the heroics of Prado came into play in the final minutes of the game. First, she drew an offensive foul from Valkyries star Snow Peñaranda, who also fouled out of the match after the charging foul and a technical infraction.
The Aguilas can get their second straight win on Sunday, February 2, when they face the Philippine Navy Lady Sailors, while the NZ Bluefire split their first two assignments.
In the second game, the Galeries Tower Skyrisers went on top of the standings as they secured their second straight triumph after dominating Solar Sun Homes, 72-20, who now dropped to 0-2 in the team standings.
Ambie Almazan led the Galeries and flirted with a triple-double performance of 21 markers, 15 boards, and seven steals, plus two dimes.
Meanwhile, the UST Lady Tigresses secured their second straight victory to join the Skyrisers with 2-0 record after overpowering the Terrence Romeo-coached PSP Gymers, 75-32, who also went down to the bottom of the standings with an 0-2 win-loss record.
Karylle Siebra was on point during the match as she delivered 16 points, seven rebounds and one assist for the Lady Tigresses to be named the Player of the Game.
