ZUS Coffee secures first-ever franchise win in Antipolo
The ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles finally won a game in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) when they defeated the Nxled Chameleons in four sets, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-15, on Tuesday night, November 19, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
At the start of the game, Nxled captured the first set and it seemed like Zus Coffee would suffer their 21 straight loss in franchise history.
But the Thunderbelles showed their grit to secure the second and third sets before they dominated the fourth set to finally secure their first-ever victory.
Veteran Jovelyn Gonzaga led the squad with 23 points anchored on 20 attacks and three blocks, while the six-foot-two rookie Thea Gagate delivered 10 attack points and five blocks.
Team captain Clo Mondoñedo only scored one point on service aces but had 17 excellent sets.
Gayle Pascual, who was inserted late in the fourth set was also vital in their first ever win as she delivered the final three points of the match.
On the other hand, Chameleon's team captain Chiara Permentilla paced the losing team with 19 markers on 17 attacks, one block, and an ace.
ZUS Coffee will try to get their second straight win against Galeries Tower Highrisers on November 28, while Nxled will battle Capital1 Solar Spikers on November 30. Both games will be held at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
